Elisabeth of Görlitz held Luxembourg as a pawn — literally. Her uncle, Emperor Sigismund, had pledged the duchy to her and her husband Anthony of Burgundy in 1411 as security against a loan he could never repay. When Anthony died at Agincourt in October 1415, Elisabeth continued issuing coinage in her own right as pledgee-ruler, a legally ambiguous position she exploited for over two decades before finally selling her claim to Philip the Good in 1441.
The four-year window this type spans reflects the administrative disruption following Agincourt rather than any minting reform.
