Obverse description Central field displays a long cross pattee dividing the coin into four quarters, with a small lis in each quarter angle. Two concentric circular legends surround the cross: the inner legend reads the royal name and title of Jean II, while the outer legend bears the devotional Christogram inscription. The design is executed in the Gothic hammered style typical of mid-14th century French royal coinage, with beaded inner and outer borders framing both legend bands.
