Additional information

Verica ruled the Atrebates as a client king under Roman patronage, a political arrangement that shaped his coinage directly — his coins are among the first British issues to adopt Romanised titles and layouts, reflecting his alignment with Augustus and Tiberius across the Channel. The "warrior star" type sits late in his reign, issued during a period of dynastic instability that ultimately ended when Verica was expelled, fled to Rome, and petitioned Claudius for military intervention. That appeal is widely cited as one of the direct pretexts for the Roman invasion of Britain in 43 AD.
