Obverse description A bold, stylised ear of grain rendered in high plastic relief, occupying the majority of the flan and curving slightly to the left, with prominent lateral spikelets fanning outward from the central stem but notably lacking a defined central stalk — a diagnostic feature of this type. The grain ear is depicted in the characteristically abstract Celtic artistic tradition. The divided inscription CA and MV appears in the field to either side of the grain ear, identifying the mint of Camulodunum.
