| Beschrijving keerzijde | Crowned shield bearing the Friesland arms — a rampant lion passant — set within a beaded inner border and surrounded by a Latin legend giving the denomination, metal, issuing authority, and date. The crowned arms are executed in a bold, compact style characteristic of hammered provincial gold coinage of the late sixteenth century. The date 1583 appears at the end of the reverse legend. The overall design reflects the heraldic conventions established by the newly independent Dutch provinces. |
