| Reverse description | Central field contains four horizontal lines of Kufic Arabic legend arranged within a plain inner circle, detailing the issuing authority, mint, and date in the Islamic calendar. The legend identifies the emir of the Catholics, Alfonso son of Sancho, invokes divine assistance, and records the mint city of Toledo together with the Safar year 1255 of the era. A continuous circular Kufic Arabic marginal legend runs between two beaded borders, completing the inscription. The composition faithfully replicates the layout of contemporary Almohad gold dinars, reflecting the monetary conventions required for trade and acceptance in Iberian markets. |
