Reverse description An elaborately ornamented cross pattée with oakleaf-style flared terminals occupies the central field, dividing the reverse into four quarters, each containing alternating fleurs-de-lis and leopards passant (lions), the traditional heraldic emblems of France and England respectively. The design is enclosed within a beaded inner circle, with a continuous uncial Latin legend surrounding it in the outer border. The hammered flan exhibits the characteristic irregular outline of medieval Gascon gold coinage struck at Bordeaux.
