| Beschrijving keerzijde | An elaborate floriated cross with fleurs-de-lis terminating each arm occupies the central field, with a crowned sun or sunburst motif at the centre where the arms intersect, flanked by floral ornaments in the four quarters. The reverse legend in Gothic uncial characters reads SIT nOmEn DnI BnEDICTV, an abbreviated form of the Vulgate doxology 'Sit nomen Domini benedictum' ('Blessed be the name of the Lord'), running continuously around the coin within a beaded inner border. The overall design is finely struck in the hammered tradition of the Grenoble mint, with characteristic late-Gothic decorative vocabulary. |
