| Obverse description | Central field displays the crowned French royal shield semé of fleurs-de-lys, surmounted by a large ornate crown and flanked on each side by an ermine spot, the heraldic emblem of Brittany. A radiant sun device, characteristic of this issue, appears above the crown. The entire central device is enclosed within a double beaded inner circle, with the circumferential Latin legend occupying the outer margin. The hammered flan exhibits the characteristic irregular edge typical of late medieval French gold coinage. |
