Obverse description Central field occupied by the crowned royal arms of France — a shield semé of fleurs-de-lis (three fleurs-de-lis arranged two over one in the French royal tradition) surmounted by a large Gothic crown with fleurons. The shield is presented frontally within a plain inner circle. The surrounding legend, in Gothic lettering, runs clockwise along the broad outer border and is separated from the inner field by a beaded circle. The overall composition is bold and heraldic, consistent with hammered French Renaissance gold coinage.
Obverse script Latin

Reverse description Central design features an elaborate floriated cross with ornate Gothic detailing, its four arms terminating in fleurs-de-lis; a fleur-de-lis is also placed in each of the four angles between the arms of the cross, forming a cruciform composition of great decorative richness. A small annular ring or boss marks the centre of the cross. The entire design is contained within a plain inner circle, beyond which the circumferential legend in Gothic lettering occupies the broad outer border, separated by a beaded ring. The style is characteristic of the Valois hammered gold coinage of the early sixteenth century.
