A Latin legend encircles the design along the outer border, invoking the sovereignty of Christ in the traditional Carolingian formula. The hammered flan shows characteristic irregular edges and slightly uneven relief typical of early sixteenth-century French mint production. The composition is bold and well-centred, consistent with the established Ecu au soleil reverse type. |
