| Obverse description | Frontal enthroned figure of John of Heinsberg, Prince-Bishop of Liège, depicted in episcopal vestments and wearing a mitre, holding a sword upright in his right hand and an orb or shield to his left. To either side of the figure stand elaborate Gothic architectural elements, rendered in the form of cathedral façades with pointed turrets and tracery. A quartered coat of arms appears to the lower right of the central figure. The circumferential Latin legend, separated by annulets, reads IOhS DEI GRA EPS LEOD Z COM LOS, identifying the issuer as John, by God's grace Bishop of Liège and Count of Looz. |
