The whole is contained within a raised inner circle and surrounded by the Latin legend XPS VINCIT XPS REGNAT XPS IMPERAT, separated by pellets and set between beaded borders. The devotional Christological inscription, a hallmark of French royal gold coinage, encircles the field in crisp, gothic-influenced lettering. The hammered flan displays the characteristic irregular shape typical of early sixteenth-century French gold issues. |
