Additional information

Christian IV's reign of sixty years is the longest of any Danish monarch, yet the gold coinage attributed to his rule spans a period of chronic fiscal stress — the disastrous wars against Sweden, particularly the Torstenson War of 1643–45, left the Danish treasury effectively broken and forced repeated debasements in the silver series. Gold issues were struck intermittently and often served diplomatic or presentation purposes rather than routine commerce.

Fr#50 identifies this piece within Friedberg's gold reference, placing it among a loosely defined group tied to Christian's long reign rather than a single mint episode.
