Reverse description Two allegorical female figures flank a central royal cipher composed of the interlaced monogram C4 surmounted by the Danish royal crown. The figure on the left, representing Piety or Justice, supports an oval shield bearing the three lions passant of the Danish royal arms, while the figure on the right raises a palm branch or scepter aloft. The circumferential Latin legend REGNA FIRMAT PIETAS ('Piety strengthens kingdoms') with the royal monogram C4 runs along the outer border, enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The composition is finely engraved and emblematic of the allegorical reverse types favored in Scandinavian gold coinage of the early seventeenth century.
