Obverse description Central design featuring the gateway of Genoa (the Porta Soprana or civic gate) depicted in full face within a polylobed frame decorated with trefoils and rosettes, rendered in the Gothic style characteristic of late medieval Genoese coinage. The gateway is presented frontally with architectural detail. The design is enclosed within a beaded or reeded inner circle. The surrounding legend in uncial Latin script identifies the issuing doge by his title and ordinal number.
