Fractional Dirham - Al-Qadi Muhammad Ibn Abbad Abbadid dynasty

The Abbadid taifa emerged from the collapse of the Umayyad Caliphate of Córdoba, with Muhammad ibn Abbad al-Mu'tadid's father, al-Qadi Muhammad, consolidating power in Seville during the fitna — the civil wars that shattered al-Andalus into competing petty kingdoms after 1009. These fractional silver pieces filled a practical gap left by the disintegration of centralized Umayyad minting infrastructure. Córdoba's authority was gone; local rulers improvised.

The Abbadid line would eventually produce some of the most culturally sophisticated courts in medieval Iberia, but this issue predates that flowering — struck when dynastic survival was still genuinely uncertain.
