Reverse description A bold cross potent or long cross dominates the central field, its shaft extending nearly to the lower edge of the irregular flan. To the right of the cross appears a schematic symbol or pseudo-letter, consistent with the pseudo-Kufic decorative elements characteristic of Lombard fractional coinage of this period. The surrounding field bears traces of further pseudo-Kufic or imitative Arabic characters, rendered in an abbreviated and non-legible manner. The design reflects the commercial and cultural interchange between the Lombard principalities and the Arab world in tenth-century southern Italy.
