| Obverse description | Facing bust of the ruler rendered in a schematic, Byzantine-influenced style, occupying the central field of the flan. The effigy displays a rounded head with rudimentary facial features and what appears to be a diademed or helmeted crown, with the shoulders indicated by striated drapery below. The overall execution is crude, consistent with the provincial hammered coinage of Lombard southern Italy in the tenth century. No legible legend is present, the field being plain around the bust. |

To the right of the cross appears a schematic symbol or pseudo-letter, consistent with the pseudo-Kufic decorative elements characteristic of Lombard fractional coinage of this period. The surrounding field bears traces of further pseudo-Kufic or imitative Arabic characters, rendered in an abbreviated and non-legible manner. The design reflects the commercial and cultural interchange between the Lombard principalities and the Arab world in tenth-century southern Italy. |
