The effigy shows the emperor in military attire with visible paludamentum folds at the shoulder. The circumferential Latin legend D N VALENTINIANVS P F AVG runs along the outer border of the flan. The coin is struck on an irregular, somewhat ragged flan characteristic of late fourth-century bronze production at the Constantinople mint. Surface wear and dark patination partially obscure the finer details of the portrait. |
