| Obverse description | Right-facing bust of Emperor Valentinian I, depicted pearl-diademed, draped, and cuirassed, rendered in the late Roman imperial portrait style typical of the Valentinianic period. The effigy shows the emperor in military attire with visible paludamentum folds at the shoulder. The circumferential Latin legend D N VALENTINIANVS P F AVG runs along the outer border of the flan. The coin is struck on an irregular, somewhat ragged flan characteristic of late fourth-century bronze production at the Constantinople mint. Surface wear and dark patination partially obscure the finer details of the portrait. |
