| Descrizione del rovescio | Two winged Victories stand facing one another in the field, each figure holding a wreath in one hand and a palm branch in the other, a composition emblematic of shared imperial triumph. The reverse legend VICTOR-IA AVGGG, referring to the victory of the three Augusti, is distributed around the type. The mint mark SMAQS in the exergue identifies production at the Aquileia mint, second officina, with the S prefix denoting the silver-washed (argentiferous) bronze fabric standard for the period. Heavy encrustation and patination render the finer design elements largely illegible on this example. |

Arcadius received the title of Augustus in January 383, aged perhaps five or six, elevated by his father Theodosius I as a safeguard against the dynastic instability that had already consumed two emperors in the preceding decade. The Aquileia mint was among the first western facilities to strike in his name, producing these small bronze issues in the tense years before Magnus Maximus was defeated at the Battle of the Save in 388.
RIC IX 47d is among the more precisely attributable varieties from this mint, distinguished by officina letter.
