| 正面描述 | Diademed, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Arcadius facing right, rendered in the late Roman imperial style characteristic of the Theodosian period. The emperor's effigy is depicted with a pearl diadem and paludamentum fastened at the shoulder. The surrounding Latin legend reads D N ARCA-DI AVG (Dominus Noster Arcadius Augustus), distributed on either side of the bust within a dotted border. The flan is small and irregular, with the portrait occupying the majority of the obverse field. The coin shows heavy green patination consistent with extended burial. |

Arcadius ruled the Eastern half of the empire while his younger brother Honorius nominally controlled the West — meaning this Rome mint piece was struck in the name of an Eastern emperor by a Western administration, a bureaucratic arrangement that reflects just how fluid the division of 395 AD actually was in practice. The SALVS REIPVBLICAE type was the dominant small bronze issue of the Theodosian period, produced in enormous quantities across every active mint as the empire's coin-using economy contracted around it.
The Rome mint closed permanently around 410, the year of Alaric's sack.
