The surrounding legend, in Gothic blackletter script, reads the opening verse of Psalm 6: DOMINE NE IN FURORE TUO ARGUAS ME, a devotional inscription standard on English gold coinage of this period. The overall design reflects the strong Flemish artistic influence present in the short-lived 1344 gold florin series. |
