A foliate mantle flanks the shield, and at the base a ribbon bears the motto JE MAINTIENDRAI. The border is decorated with a continuous row of raised spherical bosses along the inner perimeter of the square flan, consistent with the obverse design. |

Not an official state issue — this piece was struck privately to mark the inauguration of Queen Beatrix on April 30, 1980, the day Juliana abdicated after 32 years on the throne. The transition was overshadowed by significant civil unrest in Amsterdam, where protesters opposing the housing crisis clashed with police and military units deployed to the city center.
