Obverse description Crude Arabic legends fill the entire field of this hammered copper falus, with inscriptions arranged in multiple lines across the flan. The script is roughly struck and shows the characteristic irregularity of Moroccan hammered coinage of the late 17th century. The legends identify the sultan and the mint of Rabat al-Fath. The flan edges are irregular and the strike uneven, typical of the artisanal production methods employed at this period. Surface patination is a deep olive-brown with areas of green cuprite.
