Uljaytu's reign produced one of the more unusual confessional pivots in Islamic numismatic history. He converted from Sunni Islam to Twelver Shi'ism around 1309–1310, a shift significant enough that he briefly considered moving the Prophet's remains from Medina to Najaf. Copper fals of this period are poorly documented relative to the silver dirhams and gold dinars of the Ilkhanate, and attribution often relies on Zeno database references precisely because systematic type cataloguing remains incomplete.
