The surrounding marginal legend, running along the inner rim, names the issuing governor and the mint city, identifying this coin as struck under the authority of al-Qatiran ibn Akama at al-Mawsil (Mosul). The script is in early Kufic style, characteristic of Umayyad provincial administrative coinage of the mid-eighth century. The flan is irregular with minor chipping consistent with hammered production. |
