Al-Nasir Muhammad ibn Isma'il's first reign over the Zaydi imamate in Yemen was a contested and unstable period, sandwiched between rival claimants within the Qasimi dynasty that had expelled the Ottomans from Yemen in 1635. The Zaydi imams of this era issued copper fals primarily for local bazaar transactions, with silver and gold reserved for tribute and larger commerce — meaning these small coppers saw hard daily use and survivors in any decent state are genuinely scarce. Album 1136 covers a span of related types difficult to attribute with precision due to die crudeness endemic to Zaydi copper production at Sa'da and other provincial mints.
