The inscription contains the Islamic profession of faith (shahada) followed by the name and patronymic of the Shirvanshah ruler Akhsitan ibn Fariburz. The legend reads: 'There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God, Akhsitan son of Fariburz.' The surface shows characteristic granular texture and flan irregularities typical of hammered Caucasian copper coinage of the Mongol period. |
