| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field displays the crowned arms of France — a quartered shield semé de lis — surmounted by an elaborate Gothic crown with fleurs-de-lis finials, all within a raised inner circle. The shield, bearing three fleurs-de-lis arranged two above one in the French royal tradition, is rendered in fine Gothic relief characteristic of hammered gold coinage. The circular Latin legend surrounding the inner circle reads KAROLVS X DEI X GRACIA X FRANCORVM X REX, separated by saltire stops, identifying Charles VII by the Grace of God King of the French. The outer border is composed of a beaded or toothed rim following the irregular flan outline typical of hand-struck medieval gold. |
