The circular Latin legend surrounding the inner circle reads KAROLVS X DEI X GRACIA X FRANCORVM X REX, separated by saltire stops, identifying Charles VII by the Grace of God King of the French. The outer border is composed of a beaded or toothed rim following the irregular flan outline typical of hand-struck medieval gold. |
