| Beschrijving voorzijde | The entire obverse field is occupied by a three-line Latin inscription set within a prominent oak wreath (corona civica), the wreath tied at the base with a ribbon and rendered with carefully detailed leaves. The legend AVGVSTVS / TRIBVNIC / POTEST is displayed in three horizontal lines within the wreath, with no portrait effigy present. The oak wreath is a deliberate allusion to the corona civica awarded to Augustus by the Senate in 27 BC for saving the lives of Roman citizens. The design is purely epigraphic, reflecting the aniconic typology characteristic of the earliest Augustan bronze coinage struck under the authority of the tresviri monetales. |
