The authorizing senatorial legend S C appears in the lower field, divided on either side of the exergue line, confirming this issue was struck under senatorial authority. |

Sabina, wife of Hadrian, received tribunicia potestas and the title Augusta around 128 AD — the likely trigger for this issue. Her coinage was produced in her name but entirely at the discretion of the imperial administration; she had no independent authority over the mint. The Senate's formal role is acknowledged by the SC mark, though by this period that notation was largely ceremonial.
RIC II.3 2494 is a relatively late assignment in the revised second edition, reflecting the substantial reattribution work done on Hadrianic bronze that had been inconsistently catalogued in earlier scholarship.
