Reverse description A Roman war galley (navis longa) proceeding to the left, depicted with a row of oars in motion beneath the hull and a prominent aphlaston (stern ornament) curving upward at the stern. At the prow, a figurehead — identifiable as Minerva Promachus, a Triton, or Pegasus depending on die variety per RIC II.3 1299 — projects forward. The letters S and C (Senatus Consultum) are positioned in the left and right fields respectively, flanking the vessel. The legend FELICITATI AVG arcs across the upper field, while COS III PP is inscribed in the lower exergual area, the whole composition evoking Hadrian's celebrated maritime travels and the prosperity associated with his reign.
