| Obverse description | Radiate bust of Emperor Nerva facing right, rendered in the restrained, elderly portrait style characteristic of his brief reign. The radiate crown, comprising seven or more pointed rays, identifies the denomination as a dupondius. The bust is draped, with the drapery visible at the shoulder, and the portrait conveys the aged, bearded features associated with Nerva's official iconography. The encircling Latin legend runs continuously around the periphery of the field. The die work is typical of the Rome mint under Nerva, displaying confident engraving despite the coin's worn surfaces. |
