Additional information

Nero's VICTORIA AVGVSTI coinage of 66 AD commemorated no specific military victory — a fact that contemporaries would have recognized as fiction. By that year, the Parthian settlement engineered by Gnaeus Domitius Corbulo had technically resolved the Armenian crisis, but Nero's triumphal posturing masked the reality that Corbulo had done the actual fighting. Within two years, Nero would order Corbulo to commit suicide.
