| Obverse lettering | IMP CAESAR TRAIAN HADRIANVS AVG P M TR P COS III (Translation: Imperator Caesar Traianus Hadrianus Augustus, Pontifex Maximus, Tribunicia Potestate, Consul Tertium. Supreme commander (Imperator), Caesar, Trajan Hadrian, emperor (Augustus), high priest, holder of tribunician power, consul for the third time.) |
| Reverse description | The goddess Fortuna is depicted seated left upon a throne, rendered in a dignified and classical pose. In her extended right hand she holds a rudder, symbolising the guidance of fate, while her left arm cradles a cornucopia, emblem of abundance and prosperity. The legend FORTVNAE REDVCI, invoking Fortune's safe return, arcs around the upper field, with the senatorial authorisation mark S C prominently displayed in the lower exergual area. The composition is characteristic of Hadrianic reverse types celebrating the emperor's return from travels. |
