| Beschrijving voorzijde | Radiate, draped, and cuirassed bust of Emperor Hadrian facing right, rendered with the characteristic short beard and curly hair of the emperor's mature portrait type. The effigy is executed in high relief in the Antonine artistic tradition, conveying imperial authority through the combination of the radiate crown — denoting the dupondius denomination — and the military cuirass. The surrounding legend HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS P P is disposed clockwise around the periphery of the flan. The coin exhibits an irregular, broad flan typical of hammered Roman base-metal coinage of the early second century AD. |
