Surrounding this central device, a circular Latin legend reads LICINIANO ET GERMANO II VIR C C A, naming the two local magistrates (duoviri) Licinianus and Germanus responsible for the coin's issue, along with the colonial abbreviation. This magistrates' legend runs continuously around the periphery and is typical of the autonomous civic coinage produced at the Roman colony of Caesaraugusta (modern Zaragoza) under the authority of locally appointed officials during the reign of Caligula. The reverse composition reflects the standard format of Hispano-Roman provincial bronzes of this period. |
