| Opis awersu | The Dutch lion rampant facing left, depicted in bold relief, grasping in its right forepaw a bundle of arrows and in its left a pole surmounted by a Liberty cap (Vrijheidshoed), emblematic of the Dutch Republic's sovereignty. The lion stands within a fenced enclosure (the hortus conclusus or tuin), rendered with horizontal fence palings curving around the base of the composition.
