At the top of the cartouche, a small decorative motif — possibly a bird or mask — surmounts the text panel. The legend reads DUCATUS / REIPUBLICÆ / SUITENSIS / 1781, identifying this as a ducat of the Republic of Schwyz and providing the date in the lowest line. The entire design is enclosed within a toothed or milled border consistent with the obverse, and the field surrounding the cartouche is plain. |

Schwyz was among the smallest of the Swiss cantons to issue gold coinage under its own authority, and the ducatus series of 1779–81 reflects a moment when individual cantons still exercised meaningful monetary independence before Helvetic consolidation extinguished most of it. The HMZ reference places this firmly within a documented but sparsely populated type — few cantons of comparable size struck gold at this standard.
