Peter Raymond Zacosta served as Grand Master of the Hospitallers from 1461 to 1467, a tenure defined by relentless Ottoman pressure following Mehmed II's consolidation of power after Constantinople fell in 1453. Rhodes itself would not fall until 1522, but the intervening decades demanded constant fortification expenditure and diplomatic maneuvering — gold coinage was as much a tool of statecraft as a medium of exchange, used to pay mercenaries and satisfy creditors across the Latin Mediterranean.
Fr#4 is among the scarcer Grand Master ducats in the series by surviving population.
