The shield is flanked at the base by two symmetrical olive or laurel sprigs, tied together at their stems, framing the lower portion of the arms in a decorative heraldic arrangement. The encircling Latin legend reads RESPUBLICA BERNENSIS, separated by a pellet stop, and runs along the full periphery of the field. The coin's rim is defined by a fine toothed or milled border. |

Within the oval, a five-line Latin religious inscription reads BENE DICTUS SIT IEHOVA DEUS, followed by the date 1789 with a pellet stop, all rendered in bold serif capital letters. Below the oval frame, outside it, the denomination mark 1 · DUC · appears in the lower field. The overall composition is clean and typographic, with no figurative imagery, reflecting the Calvinist Reformed tradition of Bern. |
