| Description de l’avers | At center, the spade-shaped arms of Bern — depicting a diagonally striped shield charged with a walking bear — surmounted by an ornate open crown. The shield is flanked at the base by two symmetrical olive or laurel sprigs, tied together at their stems, framing the lower portion of the arms in a decorative heraldic arrangement. The encircling Latin legend reads RESPUBLICA BERNENSIS, separated by a pellet stop, and runs along the full periphery of the field. The coin's rim is defined by a fine toothed or milled border. |

| Description du revers | The entire reverse field is dominated by a large oval cartouche with a double-line border, surmounted at the top by a small decorative floral or foliate ornament and flanked by laurel or olive branches running along the outer edge of the frame. Within the oval, a five-line Latin religious inscription reads BENE DICTUS SIT IEHOVA DEUS, followed by the date 1789 with a pellet stop, all rendered in bold serif capital letters. Below the oval frame, outside it, the denomination mark 1 · DUC · appears in the lower field. The overall composition is clean and typographic, with no figurative imagery, reflecting the Calvinist Reformed tradition of Bern. |
