背面描述 A rose in full bloom occupies the central field, depicted with layered petals in high relief — the canonical civic emblem of Rhodes. Above the rose, the magistrate's name ΣΟΜΑΧΟ is inscribed in Greek letters, and to the right, the letter P flanked by O appears as a secondary control mark or abbreviation. A dotted border encircles the design. A palm frond or leaf symbol is visible in the lower exergual area, serving as an additional control mark. The overall composition is consistent with the late Plinthophoric drachm series of Rhodes.

附加信息

This issue falls within a period of severe disruption for Rhodian silver coinage. In 88 BC, Mithridates VI of Pontus sacked Rhodian ally cities and blockaded trade routes throughout the Aegean, and while Rhodes itself resisted his forces, the broader monetary economy of the region was badly fractured. The "Somacho" designation refers to the magistrate's name appearing on the issue — a naming convention Rhodes used consistently across its late Hellenistic and early Imperial-period drachm production to denote the responsible monetary official.

The HGC 6, 1459 reference encompasses a substantial date range, reflecting the difficulty scholars have faced in tightening chronologies for Rhodian magistrate coinage without supporting epigraphic evidence.
