| Beschrijving keerzijde | Arsaces I, the dynastic founder and emblematic archer figure of the Parthian coinage, is depicted seated right on a throne or omphalos, wearing the traditional Parthian kyrbasia (soft pointed cap) and segmented scale armor. He holds a bow in his left hand and an arrow in his right, the composite bow being a principal symbol of Arsacid royal authority. A monogram appears in the left field behind the figure. The Greek inscription, arranged in four lines framing the central type in a rectangular border, reads ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ ΜΕΓΑΛΟΥ ΑΡΣΑΚΟΥ, meaning 'of the Great King Arsaces,' with a partially preserved additional element. |
