Colophon, one of the wealthiest Ionian Greek cities, struck Alexander-type coinage during the chaotic years immediately following Alexander's death in 323 BC — a period when his generals, the Diadochi, were actively competing for control of Asia Minor's mint cities. Price 1764 places this issue within that early post-mortem window, when coins were still struck in Alexander's name precisely because no successor had consolidated enough authority to impose his own.
