背面描述 Zeus Aëtophoros enthroned left on a backless throne, his nude upper body draped from the waist, holding an eagle on his outstretched right hand and a long sceptre in his left. In the left field, a monogram serves as a mint control mark. Below the throne, a male head facing left wearing a Phrygian cap appears as a secondary control symbol. The Greek legend ΑΛΕΞΑΝΔΡΟΥ runs along the right field, identifying the coin as issued in the name of Alexander.

附加信息

Abydos, positioned at the narrowest crossing of the Hellespont, was among the mints that continued striking Alexander-type coinage well after his death in 323 BC — part of the vast posthumous output that flooded the eastern Mediterranean as his successors carved up the empire. Issues from this mint fall within the early Diadochi period, when maintaining the familiar Alexandrine coinage types was a deliberate political act: familiarity meant trust, and trust meant trade routes stayed open. Price 1577 is identifiable by its specific control marks, the sole means of attributing these otherwise near-identical pieces to their issuing city.
