| Description du revers | Diademed head of the nymph Arethusa facing right in fine early Classical style, her hair bound with a diadem and gathered into a sphendone, with loose locks falling to the neck. The portrait is rendered in low to medium relief with naturalistic modelling of the facial features. The ethnic legend ΣΥΡΑΚΟΣΙΟΝ curves around the periphery of the field in archaic Greek letters. The design is contained within a plain round field without a dotted border, consistent with early issues of this series. |
